Nelson rugby watcher caught drink-driving

Police in Nelson are concerned that a woman caught speeding to work today after watching early-morning rugby was also drunk.

Senior Sergeant John Price said the woman was stopped by a police patrol for speeding in the suburb of Stoke.

A breath alcohol test showed the 47-year-old was close to four times the legal alcohol limit, with a reading of 943 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath.

Mr Price said the police would continue to be vigilant on the roads throughout the Rugby World Cup tournament, and employers should be talking to staff about their expectations regarding drinking alcohol before arriving for work.
