Starship children's hospital has had six cases of norovirus in the past month.

Director John Beca said the patients had been placed in single rooms to limit the spread of infection and only one confirmed case remained in isolation.

Doctor Beca said norovirus, or gastroenteritis, was "more or less" always present in the community.

He said patients and visitors had been advised to take sensible precautions to minimise infection.
