9:06 am on 29 September 2015

A series of fires in Christchurch's Avon Loop is being treated as suspicious.

Crews dealt with several blazes at Bangor Street and Hurley Street this morning.

Firefighters were called at 3.30am to a garage fire that had spread into a house.

When working to control the blaze and establishing the family were safely out of their home, firefighters spotted a skip in flames at a nearby construction site.

An hour later, a fire crew were sent to Hurley Street, about 100 metres from the house fire, to put out fires in a skip bin and in a stack of pallets.

The Fire Service said two people located in a nearby abandoned hotel were now helping police with their enquiries.
