Police in Wellington are looking for a man in relation to a 230-thousand dollar spend using fraudulent credit accounts.

The police have been investigating fraud complaints from various trade supply businesses targeted between November 2014 and May this year.

They say the purchases included drainage equipment, power tools and alcohol.

The police are searching for Christian Smith, previously known as Christopher Stanley Sanford and Christoper Raymond Mish-Wills.

Detective Blair Adamson says business should be more vigilant when providing credit accounts.

He says this type of fraud is occuring throughout the country, and businesses need to share information to identify serial offenders.
