An eight-year-old boy was killed when he was struck by a car on State Highway 5 in south Waikato.
Police say Thomas Evans, of Auckland, was with his father when their vehicle broke down near Tirau yesterday afternoon.
His father went across the road to get water for the radiator, and the boy initially stayed in the vehicle, but decided a short time later to follow his father.
He was was hit by an oncoming car.
