No plans to repatriate remains from Asian conflicts

The Government says it has no plans to repatriate the remains of soldiers who died more than forty years ago while on deployment in Vietnam and Malaysia.

From 1948 to 1967, New Zealand soldiers who died serving overseas were buried in the nearest suitable Commonwealth or allied forces cemetery.

Families of the men are again attempting to retrieve their bodies.

But Veterans' Affairs Minister Craig Foss said there were no plans to change the Government's policy of not repatriating their remains.
