Two earthquakes have shaken the lower North Island this afternoon.
The first was in Taranaki and was centred about 30 kilometres northwest of Opunake.
It measured 4.2 on the Richter Scale, and was just six kilometres deep.
Geonet described it as strong and people on social media have reported it as a decent jolt.
A second quake was reported about 45 minutes later.
It measured 3.7 and was located 25 kilometres northwest of Wellington.
