Hamilton council to review zoo following death

3:20 pm on 11 November 2015

The Hamilton City Council has announced an independent review of the city's zoo two months after keeper Samantha Kudeweh was mauled to death by a tiger.

Investigations by the council and WorkSafe into her death are still to be completed.

The council says the independent review, expected to be completed by April, is to ensure the ratepayer-owned zoo delivers value for money and is a safe environment for staff, visitors and animals.

The council says the number of visitors has risen in recent months and the zoo's future is secure.
