The ashes of television personality Helena McAlpine will not be scattered as part of the midnight fireworks display at Rhythm and Vines tonight.
Ms McAlpine, who died this year following a long fight with breast cancer, had wanted her ashes scattered as part of the New Year's eve display.
But in a statement released this afternoon, organisers say following consultation with local iwi, they have decided not to go ahead with the plan.
They said the annual fireworks display would still take place tonight as scheduled.
Friends and relatives will instead hold a private ceremony for Ms McAlpine at another time.
