Auckland Kauri tree protestor appears in court

12:15 pm on 6 January 2016

An arborist who staged a sit-in up a west Auckland Kauri tree appeared in court today.

Johno Smith was issued a trespass notice last month after he climbed the Titirangi tree, in the second wave of attempts to stop a property developer from cutting it down.

Mr Smith turned himself in to police, and appeared in the Waitakere District Court this morning.

He is due back in court on 20 January.

Mr Smith said he would take full accountability for his actions.
