NRL Nines won't need bail-out after Dick Smith receivership - ATEED

The Auckland Council's events arm ATEED says there's no need for it - or the Council itself - to bail out the NRL Nines tournament, after its principal sponsor Dick Smith went into receivership.

The receivers have announced that the electronics retailer is up for sale.

ATEED said as the host-sponsor for the event, it was putting $1.75 million into the 2016 tournament.

But it said it was not the event underwriter, and there were a number of other private sponsors involved too.

ATEED chief executive Brett O'Riley said they had not been asked for a top-up and there was no intention to provide extra funding.
