The Clutha District Council is urging people to check for leaks and conserve water as demand is close to reaching capacity.
A council spokesperson said leaks needed to be reported so they could be fixed.
People should make sure water was not wasted through leaking taps and unattended watering systems, and farmers should turn off any water systems which were not needed, the spokesperson said.
