American actor Abe Vigoda best known for roles in "The Godfather" and the sitcom "Barney Miller," has died at the age of 94.

His daughter said he died at home of natural causes.

Vigoda, with his hang-dog face and slow delivery, was adept at drama and comedy, and had modest success in the 1960s.

He got his big break in 1972, when he was past 50, playing the mobster traitor, Salvatore Tessio in "The Godfather".

He then went on to his most famous role - as the grumpy and deadpan Detective Sergeant Phil Fish in the "Barney Miller" police comedy series.
