Elephant poachers kill conservation charity's helicopter pilot

A British helicopter pilot working for a conservation charity has been shot dead by elephant poachers in Tanzania.

The Friedkin Conservation Fund said the pilot, Roger Gower, had been tracking the poachers, who fired at his helicopter, fatally wounding him.

Mr Gower managed to land, but died before he could be rescued.

Charity founder Dan Friedkin said the organisation was profoundly saddened by the loss .
