Police in Wellington are investigating the unexplained death of a woman in the suburb of Newtown.
The police had gone to a property in Constable Street, Newtown to check on the woman's wellbeing and discovered the body about 7pm yesterday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Warwick McKee said the woman was believed to have been in her 30s and police were trying to confirm her identity.
He said a a scene examination would be completed by today.
Mr McKee said police will be in the neighbourhood speaking to residents to determine the woman's recent movements.
