AirNZ to spend $25m on navigation equipment

7:20 pm on 4 February 2016

The airline's jet aircraft already use the RNP technology; its 68-seat ATR planes will have the same capability once installation and testing work is completed in two years' time.

Flights into Queenstown currently get diverted to Christchurch or Invercargill if bad weather makes landing impossible.

It will be the first time in the world that ATR aircraft have been equipped with the new navigation system.
