Earthquake-damaged land in parts of the Waimakariri district may be turned into playgrounds, farms and a BMX park, under a proposal released today.
Waimakariri District Council released its a plan which outlines long-term uses of almost 100 hectares of land north of Christchurch.
Plans include the chance for some former red-zoned Canterbury homeowners to buy back or lease their old sections but they will not be able to rebuild on them.
Property owners in the red zones, who remain in their homes, will have essential services maintained.
