One of the world's most famous locomotives makes a comeback in Britain after more than 50 years away from the tracks.

The Flying Scotsman is scheduled to travel from Carnforth, north of Manchester, to Carlisle today following an $8 million restoration project, which has taken 10 years.

The engine was retired from service in 1963.

Low-speed tests have taken place along the East Lancashire Railway.
