A one-year-old boy has been found dead by family in a pond near a west Auckland house earlier this evening.
The police said they were called just before 8pm to help look for the child in Kumeu.
They said a family member found the boy in a nearby pond, and he was unable to be resuscitated.
The death was not considered suspicious, and was being treated as a tragic accident.
The matter has been referred to the Coroner.
