A man has drowned after being tipped from a small boat attempting to cross the Patea bar in Taranaki this morning.
Police were told two men were in the water about 7.40am.
Senior Sergeant Thomas McIntyre said one of the men was able to get to the beach safely but the other man was washed ashore unconscious a short time later.
Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
