Police have seized 19 kilos of ephedrine, which they say had the potential to produce $12 million worth of methamphetamine.

Ephedrine is a Class B drug and a precursor to methamphetamine.

The Organised and Financial Crime Agency seized the drugs during an operation that focused on the supply of ephedrine in Auckland.

A 31-year-old Chinese man from Canada has been charged with possession of a Class B controlled drug for supply.
