Auckland's Tamaki Drive in Mission Bay has been reopened to traffic after emergency services dealt with a suspicious item in a nearby reserve.
A small area behind the police base is still cordoned off as the immediate scene is examined.
Motorists were advised to seek alternative routes to and from the city.
Tamaki Drive is a popular destination for joggers, cyclists and beach goers, especially during the weekend.
