Students may have to wait another two weeks before they can return to their Hokitika high school, which was damaged in a fire this month.

The fire at Westland High School, on 8 February, caused the hall roof to collapse and destroyed the staff room, as well as causing water and smoke damage to classrooms.

Students resumed classes the following week at eight different sites around town.

Principal Trevor Jones said workers may need a further two weeks or more before they were able to re-open the school.
