A former New Zealand rugby player has pleaded guilty to an assault in Dublin in which he attacked a man with a glass.

Tyron Davies, 23, admitted the charges in the Dublin District Court. He is a former student of St Bede's College in Christchurch.

He was believed to be involved with the Kildare Rugby Club in Ireland.

Dublin-based court reporter Tom Tuite said Davies was awaiting sentencing and planned to return to New Zealand in March.

He said the attack happened in a popular hotel bar late last year, and the assault left the victim's face scarred.
