A driver has been attacked with a hammer while sitting in his car in Taranaki.
Police said it happened outside the Egmont Village Tractor Spares on State Highway 3 just before 2.45pm.
A man in a black Nissan Safari used the hammer to smash the windscreen and driver's window of an orange Holden Commodore, causing minor injuries to the driver.
Police said the attacker then assaulted the driver and drove off towards Inglewood.
A man has been arrested.
Police want anyone who saw either car in the area, or witnessed the attack, to contact them.
