The New Zealand Army soldier who died in Jordan last week has been named.

He was Sergeant Paul Andrew Hartley, 30, from Auckland.

The Army has not said how he died, but said Sergeant Hartley was not in combat at the time and the circumstances were not suspicious.

He was a national liaison officer, and died at the Coalition headquarters in Jordan.

Plans are underway to repatriate Sergeant Hartley's body back to New Zealand.

His family has asked for privacy and his funeral will be a private ceremony for family and friends only.
