NZ travellers may be affected by Australia airport staff strikes

2:01 pm on 22 March 2016

Strikes at airports in four Australian states today may affect travellers from New Zealand and other countries.

Australian public servants have been carrying out industrial action over a two-year battle on pay, and are preparing for wider action on the eve of Easter weekend.

Today, immigration staff and Border Force officers are stopping work at airports in Cairns, Townsville, Perth, Darwin and Adelaide.

Staff at airports in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane will join in on Thursday for a 24-hour strike.

Staff at cruise ship terminals will also take part.
