The Rugby Sevens tournament is set to stay in the capital.
New Zealand Rugby Union has an agreement to run the Sevens until 2019, but the capital's role as host city expired this year.
After poor ticket sales in Wellington this year, the tournament's location for the next two years was up for grabs.
RNZ News has been told it is set to stay, but that decision has not been confirmed by the Rugby Union or the Wellington City Council.
