12:24 pm on 24 March 2016

Police have arrested four teenage girls after an attack on Auckland's Queen Street overnight.

Police said two young women were accosted, one of them beaten and kicked on the ground when she wouldn't give up her handbag.

The four teenagers, aged 14 and 15, have been charged with assault with intent to rob, and will appear in Youth Court next week.

Police said they were appalled at the level of violence displayed in the attack, and further charges may be laid in relation to similar incidents in the city.
