Lemon-smuggler sent home

A plane passenger who deliberately smuggled six lemons in her trousers into New Zealand has been sent home.

The lemons were sniffed out by one of Auckland Airport's biosecurity detector dogs after the woman arrived on a flight from Hong Kong on Monday.

Biosecurity officials said the woman did not declare that she was carrying any food and her excuse was that the lemons were good for her liver and other illnesses.

Mr Hughes said immigration officials refused the woman entry and she was forced to return to Hong Kong on the next available flight.
