Kiwifruit growers are looking forward to a bumper season.
With the bulk of the harvest due to begin shortly, the industry believes its poised for a record year.
Kiwifruit Growers chairman Doug Brown said growers were expecting to sell 20 million more trays of a gold, PSA-tolerant variety this year, compared with last year.
"We've grafted over to a new gold variety, and this has been the driving force of our recovery.
Mr Brown, who grows kiwifruit in Opotiki, Te Puke and Gisborne, said New Zealand was still also producing record amounts of green kiwifruit.
