RNZ amendment bill passes third reading

11:07 pm on 30 March 2016

Legislation to update Radio New Zealand's charter has unanimously passed its third and final reading in Parliament.

The bill, which was first introduced to the House in 2009 and reported back from select committee that same year, had been languishing on the order paper.

It will introduce the term "commercial-free" into the charter and allow RNZ to pursue new opportunities as a multi-media broadcaster.

RNZ's charter is reviewed every five years. The last review was in 2005.
