Several nominations for RNZ in Canon Media Awards

RNZ's journalism has been recognised today with a number of finalist nominations in this year's Canon Media Awards.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony to be held at Te Papa in May later this year.

RNZ.co.nz and The Wireless are both finalists in the best website section, where they are joined by The Spinoff. RNZ.co.nz is a finalist in the best news site or app section, with The Herald iPhone App and TVNZ One News.

And it is also a finalist in the best coverage of a major news event (Cyclone Winston), along with Stuff.co.nz and Herald.co.nz.

Journalist Alex Ashton is a finalist in the junior reporter of the year section, while contributors Toby Manhire and Toby Morris are finalists in the best opinion writing general section.

Luke McPake, for his work with The Wireless, is a finalist in the videographer of the year and feature video sections.

RNZ chief executive Paul Thompson congratulated all those nominated, saying he was delighted that RNZ's staff and their high-quality work had been recognised.
