Christchurch gets pumped with NZ's biggest wastewater station

12:56 pm on 11 April 2016

The country's largest wastewater pump station, which cost $100 million to build, has been opened in Christchurch.

The vacuum pump station on Pages Road draws sewage and wastewater from nearly 3000 households in one suburb alone.

More than 100,000 litres per second are pumped through the system.

The station opened at the weekend, replacing one which was badly damaged during the 2011 earthquakes.
