11:57 am on 14 April 2016

A member of the public was hit over the head with the butt of a gun during an armed robbery at a Lower Hutt supermarket.

Police say a man entered the New World supermarket in Stokes Valley at 6.40am today brandishing a shotgun. Another man was seen waiting in the car park.

The pair were seen leaving in a vehicle. Police are not yet sure what the victim's injuries are and whether money was stolen.

Both men are described as Maori or Polynesian, wearing black beanies and white painters' overalls - one sleeveless, the other not.
