A homicide inquiry is under way after the death of a 41-year old woman in Mangakino, north-west of Taupo.
Police were alerted to the incident about 7.30am today.
A 44-year old man has been arrested and is in custody, charged with assault.
A scene examination at a property in Mangakino had begun and the police said the incident appeared to be isolated, with no risk to the community.
