Teen to face charges after road worker hit in police chase

A teenager will face several charges after a road worker was hit and injured in a police chase that went wrong.

Police said they initially noticed the driver of the car acting suspiciously along Stokes Valley Road on 18 April, around 1pm.

The vehicle sped off but the driver lost control and struck a worker who was part of a team working on power lines.

The worker was flown to Wellington Hospital with serious injuries.

Police said a 14-year-old had been apprehended and will appear in the Hutt Valley Youth Court on Wednesday.

They will be charged with reckless driving causing injury, failing to ascertain injury, and failing to stop.
