The centre-right group contesting Auckland's local body elections has unveiled plans for smaller rate rises and cost-cutting within the council.

National Party-aligned group Auckland Future, with mayoral candidate Victoria Crone, plans to hold residential rates rises to an average of 2 percent over the next three years.

Their fiscal policy also promises to cut at least $500 million from council budgets over the next eight years.

The centre-right programme would also cap staff numbers and reduce staff costs by between 5 and 10 percent over the next three years.

The policy did not detail how the savings could be achieved.
