New vehicle registrations have climbed to the highest in an April for 34 years.
Passenger car registrations totalled 6,789, and 3,150 commercial vehicle were registered in the month.
The total 9,939 is the highest for an April since 1982, when 10,329 were registered.
Motor Industry Association chief executive, David Crawford said the market had been growing year on year since 2012 but this year did provide some challenges.
"On the downside the rural economy is fragile ... so it would be challenging for the record to be broken again this year."
