10 jobs to go as part of Whanganui council restructure

1:15 pm on 23 May 2016

Ten senior management jobs will disestablished as part of a radical restructure of the Whanganui District Council.

Council chief executive Kym Fell, who has been in the job since January, said the proposed restructure would save $1 million over three years and improve the way council did business.

Mr Fell said traditional hierarchical structures were preventing things from getting done and there was an appetite for change among the elected members, ratepayers and residents.

He said council staff had also asked for better leadership.

Seven new management posts will be created in the restructure.

Staff have until Friday to provide feedback on the proposal, and a final decision is due to be announced on 3 June.
