Whānau Ora is getting new funding of $40 million over four years.

Together with $11.38m announced earlier this month, that will lift the social agency's annual operating budget to $72m a year.

Whānau Ora Minister Te Ururoa Flavell said the demand for its services was growing as more whānau sought to take control of their own lives.

Three commissioning agencies currently work with 8500 whānau and the new money is intended to help them reach another 2500 people.
