Judges and kaumatua working in Rangatahi and Pasifika courts are to receive international recognition for their ground-breaking work.
Rangatahi courts started in 2008 and there are now 14 of them operating around the country.
The courts use a marae-based and Māori-specific environment to help young Māori and their whānau navigate their way through the justice system.
Eight judges and kaumatua representing all the marae will be honoured at a ceremony in Auckland this afternoon where they will receive an Award for Excellence in Judicial Administration from the Australian Institute of Judicial Administration.
The institute says the courts have improved access to justice, demonstrated innovation and delivered real benefits to the justice system.
