The Commerce Commission has laid 37 charges against an Auckland educational software company after complaints from nearly 200 consumers.

It alleges the Auckland Academy of Learning misrepresented a software package to parents.

It said staff were invited into homes after saying school-aged children could receive a complimentary evaluation and tutoring session, when the real purpose was to sell the package, which cost between $6000 and $11,000.

It's also alleged the company breached consumer credit and direct-selling laws.

The commission got more than 180 complaints - most of them after reports on TV3's Campbell Live programme, about 18 months ago.
