Lightning strikes injure dozens at German music festival

11:01 am on 5 June 2016

The number of people injured by lightning strikes at a rock music festival in Germany has risen to 71.

The German Red Cross said eight people were hospitalised, with one man who had to be resuscitated at the scene still in hospital.

Organisers urged more than 90,000 fans to seek shelter in cars and tents as another thunderstorm approached hours after the strikes.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Black Sabbath headlined the sellout Rock am Ring festival.

Organisers said they weren't considering cancelling.

33 people were injured at the festival last year by lightning strikes.
