Major Auckland IT merger passes first test

One of the country's biggest IT mergers has passed it first test, with the Auckland Council hooking up information belonging to three of the eight councils that amalgamated in 2010.

The council has been running the systems in parallel.

Over the weekend, data from the former Rodney, Waitakere and North Shore councils was shifted onto its Newcore system.

Chief operating officer Dean Kimpton said the $157 million project was on track to be finished mid-next year, with the next step being to merge rates data in July.

"That's complex because of the relationship between individual ratepayers in Auckland of which there's 450 odd thousand, consents and property in October, but this is the first major go-live like I said, it's 100 percent of the system and it's 40 percent of the population."
