Police in Gisborne are hunting for a man believed to have threatened people with a firearm, before crashing his vehicle while fleeing from police.
They say 37-year-old Aaron Bagley may still have a gun.
Police spotted the man soon after being called to a house in the suburb of Mangapapa about 8pm last night.
They say a short vehicle pursuit followed, the man crashed into a paddock and then ran off.
A small truck was stolen a little later from a stonemason's yard near the city's cemetery.
The truck was found about 2.30pm today in the suburb of Te Hapara.
