A Soyuz capsule bringing three astronauts back from the International Space Station has made a safe parachute landing in Kazakhstan.

The crew, comprising a Russian, an American, and Britain's first astronaut Tim Peake, had spent six months on the space station in Earth's orbit.

The capsule landed on its side after parachuting for 14 minutes, but a search and recovery team quickly extracted the trio.

Mr Peake told reporters he was enjoying the "smells of earth" and fresh air again.
