Christchurch's largest private sector employer is looking to the US for new opportunities as growth for the company expands.

Tait Communications employs more than 600 people in Christchurch, and supplies communications equipment to a range of industries, including the police force in New Zealand and Brazil, and fire authorities in Australia and New York.

Last year Tait completed a $19 million contract fitting communication systems in London's red buses, and has recently signed multi-million dollar deals in Brazil and the UK.

But Tait's chief marketing officer James Kyd says the US is the firm's largest market globally as well as its strongest growth market.

He says Tait is growing in double digits each year both in staff and revenue in the US and the company can see plenty of growth opportunities ahead there.

Mr Kyd says he and Tait's managing director have recently returned from the US, where they have been scouting out potential growth opportunities.

He says while the United States is the company's fastest growing market, it also growing in Europe despite the challenging economic environment there.

Tait Communications has recently dropped 'radio' from its name, saying it wants to focus on providing a range of communication solutions.
