Auckland international passengers rise

7:51 am on 23 March 2012

The number of international passengers passing through Auckland International Airport rose to 586,000 in February - an increase of 1.8% compared with the same month a year earlier.

The country's main gateway says people travelling to and from Asia jumped 11%, despite the Chinese New Year holiday in January curbing visitors from China and Hong Kong.

Domestic passengers rose more than 2%, which the airport says has been driven by strong patronage on Jetstar flights.
