A merger of NZCU Baywide with Manchester Unity Credit Union will create the country's largest credit union.

NZCU Baywide chief executive Gavin Earle says the combined assets from the merger are now approximately $220 million and more than 40,000 members.

Manchester Unity has branches in Hastings, Taradale, Christchurch, Nelson, Palmerston, New Plymouth, Rangiora, Ashburton and Invercargill.

Last year, it merged with Wine Country Credit Union.

NZCU Baywide has 14 branches in the lower and central North Island.
